Breath of Spring

For the third consecutive year, we are proud to partner with the Kootenay Express for our annual Breath of Spring campaign.

Ceiling mounted lifts:

...are used to move patients from their bed to a stretcher, wheelchair, or commode, or to a seated position for meals;

...reposition a patient to prevent bedsores and pneumonia;

...are used for bathing patients;

...reduce injuries to medical staff caused by moving patients;

...use a slow controlled movement to move the patient, which is much less stressful than having two staff members lift them under the arms, especially for patients who are confused or unable to take direction.

Carla Klein

At this time there is no ceiling lift in the palliative care unit, where the smallest movement can sometimes cause a fracture or extreme pain. Moving a patient in this condition to a stretcher to take them for a test could take up to an hour. Your generous donation will allow us to purchase a ceiling lift for our palliative care patients, allowing them to be moved safely and without pain.

Thank you for supporting the Breath of Spring campaign!

The Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation (KLHF) is a public Foundation dedicated to maintaining and/or improving services offered at Kootenay Lake Hospital (KLH) for the enhancement of patient care by acting as the fundraising agency for KLH. KLHF supports fundraising for medical equipment and special projects to enable KLH to better serve the community at large.

The KLHF will build its endowment fund, called The Legacy Fund, to ensure its continued ability to enhance patient care. The Legacy Fund is managed by the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation. The stewards of the Legacy Fund are seriously committed to the wise management, professional investment and confidential treatment of all gifts.

The KLHF accomplishes its mission by fostering goodwill within the community. This in turn generates financial contributions in the form of sponsorships, donations, and planned giving to maintain and enhance the care offered to the Kootenay Lake Hospital patients.

Why? We all benefit from quality health care. To family, friends, and neighbors this means up to date equipment, efficient diagnosis and treatment available close to home.
